What is the best way to store the ink pads?

One of the nicest features of our Stampin' Up! ink pads is that they automatically store upside down. That help keeps the ink at the top of the pad so inking up a stamp should be easier. However if you have a VersaMark pad which is sold by SU, but not a SU product, you should store it upside down.

Stampin' Up! just offered this information about their Stampin Spots. They are hand filled with ink and are filled to the brim, so it is not recommended that they be stored upside down. Storing them upside down will cause leaking.
